Mapped: the Twitter Languages of New York

Mapping social media use in a place like New York City can reveal some interesting and perhaps surprising information about who’s doing what and where. James Cheshire at the UCL Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis teamed up with Ed Manley and John Barrat to collect, map and analyze about 8.5 million geo-located tweets collected in greater NYC between Jan 2010 and Feb 2013.  Click the map below to link to the full-page interactive map, and here’s a link to the short article about the creation of the map and a few notable results.
